Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and his wife, Crown Princess Mary, will later today visit Geysi in Haukadalur valley to view the so-called King Stones.
The Danish Icelandic Chamber of Commerce has recently renovated the carvings on the Stones. Marel Food Systems, which has a strong relationship with Denmark, is one of four companies – two Icelandic and two Danish – that have provided financial support for the project. A large part of Marel Food System’s operations and nearly a quarter of its staff is based there.
The King Stones, which are three in number, bear decorative carvings, along with the dates 1874, 1907 and 1921, in honor of visits by three Danish kings to Iceland.
The royal couple’s visit to Iceland, at the invitation of President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and First Lady Dorrit Moussaieff, began Monday, 5 May, and concludes Thursday, 8 May.
